Hue Riders - Vietnam Motorbike Tours4b - Central LoopHue - Prao - Kon Tum - Quang Nai - Hoi An4 days / 3 nights
Heading out of Hue by motorbike we travel on highway 49 to Aluoi town, we ride up to the top of Ma Oi pass, where you can stop to swim at the Mau waterfall and see the handicraft sewing of the Van Kieu ethnic minority. After lunch in Aluoi town we join the Ho Chi Minh Trail, a legendary road in the war time that we will be following south for the next 2.5 days. This afternoon we have the opportunity to stop at A-Tep ethnic minority village, you can tour the village, play football with the kids and maybe give them a small gift. Overnight in Prao, a small mountain town. Today we follow the Old Ho Chi Minh Trail South through the Central Highlands from Prao to Kon Tum. Also known as Route 14, this scenic and seldom used road runs alongside the Lao/Vietnamese frontier (Lao is sometimes only a kilometre away to the east). The Central Highlands are renowned for their cool climate and beautiful mountain scenery with many lakes, rivers and waterfalls. As we pass through mountain towns and hill tribe villages you can learn about rural life and cottage industries in Vietnam. We will stop at some traditional Rong houses and visit some of the war monuments in the towns along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. In the late afternoon we arrive in Kon Tum where we will spend the night. This morning we will explore the city of Kon Tum and some of its montagnard villages. You can visit the Vinh Son orphanage and spend some time with the children, see Kon Tum's beautiful Black Wooden Church, visit a Bana minority village with their Rong houses, watch old men playing bamboo instruments and maybe visit the Hill tribe museum. Leaving Kon Tum we travel east on Highway 24 to the city of Quang Ngai arriving at our hotel in the late afternoon. A short distance from Quang Ngai is the the Son My Memorial, known to the world as the My Lai Massacre. On the morning of March 16 1968 US Soldiers killed 504 unarmed people in this village, mostly old men, women and children, and later tried to cover up the massacre. At the Son My Memorial the village has been recreated to show the aftermath of that terrible day. The event was documented by a US military photographer and a museum at the site displays these graphic images. Leaving Son My we have head to My Khe beach a beautiful long stretch of fine white sand where we can take some time to relax and have lunch. In the afternoon we travel up highway 1a to Hoi An. On arrival in Hoi An your Hue Riders guide will orientate you with the town, perhaps taking you to the beach, around Hoi An Ancient town or showing you the best tailors and places to eat and drink. The tour finishes this evening in Hoi An. |
